Philippians 3:4-11

Knowing the Righteousness of God (Philippians 3:4-11)

What is important in your life? In many ways, whatever you view as important in your life will ultimately shape your life and destiny. Of course, this was the same for the apostle Paul. Paul’s life and destiny was shaped when he discovered God’s righteousness through faith in Christ.

When the apostle Paul realized that his own righteousness was rubbish before God, he renounced it and turned to God through faith in Jesus Christ (Phil. 3:9). We too must realize that we cannot come to God in our own righteousness, but only through faith in Jesus Christ. As we examine this subject today, may God impress upon our hearts the importance of experiencing God’s righteousness through faith in Jesus Christ!

In this passage, Paul gave three steps for knowing the righteousness of God.

They are:

  • Realize that it is not found in self-righteousness (3:4-8a)
  • Realize that it is found in faith in Christ (3:8b-9)
  • Realize that it is expressed through faith in Christ (3:10-11)

The righteousness of God is not found through self-efforts but it is found and expressed through faith in Christ.
