Free Teaching Sermonettes

FREE TEACHING SERMONETTES are mini-sermons or short messages used for teaching a biblical principle or truth.

How To Write A Sermonette

Writing a sermonette requires structure like any other sermon. The only difference is that you must compress the content so that it's not too long.

A sermonette requires a main preaching point and sub-points.

In the sermonette below, you will find that the main preaching point is: Is God Watching From a Distance? The sub-points are: Our God is Intimate and Our God is Involved.

Is God Watching From A Distance?

Several years ago, Bette Midler released a very popular song called From a Distance. It was so popular that just about everyone was singing it. But there was only one problem with that song. God is not watching us from a distance. That song is not true. You see God is not some deistic person who places Himself at a distance and then watches us.

No, that’s not our God at all. Our God is intimate. Our God is involved. We only need to look at the birth of Jesus Christ to see that our God is intimate and involved in the affairs of mankind (Luke 2:8-20). I often hear people say, “Where is God? I can’t see Him. I can’t feel Him. Anyhow, when you want Him, He is never around.” So people conclude that God is at a distance.

But evidence shows us that God is not at a distance. We only need to look at history, redemption, and experience to see that God is involved in the affairs of mankind. Is God watching us from a distance? No, he’s not. Instead, God is intimate, and He wants to be involved in your life. Jesus said, “Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with me” (Revelation 3:20). Jesus also said, “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light” (Matthew 11:28-30).

No, God is not watching from a distance. He wants to be involved in your life. Will you allow God to be involved in your life? If you turn from sin to faith in Jesus Christ, then God will be involved in your life (Mark 1:15).
